The European toluene spot market saw premiums rise slightly in the week ended Aug. 28, supported by renewed buying interest from the gasoline blending pool. the M1 August toluene CIF ARA premium to Eurobob gasoline at $280/metric ton on Aug. 28, up $3.75/mt week over week. Sources continued to indicate that demand was primarily coming from the gasoline blending sector. There was also some indication of demand from the petrochemical sector as market participants returned from the holiday period. “There is some demand from petrochemicals due to restocking,” a distributor said. The gasoline-naphtha spread continued to widen during the week, highlighting favorable economics for using toluene as an octane booster in gasoline blending.
