European methanol: Lack of urgent buying, selling interest slows market / At least 5,000 mt traded in week / Methanex, Valenz announced 18-20 cents/gallon decrease in Americas

The European methanol spot market ended the week quietly on Aug. 28 as buying interest diminished. There were no deals heard completed on the day, with total volumes traded in the week down 10,000 metric tons compared to one week prior. The cool down was reflected in lower bids, last heard at €380/ mt for September and October on the day. A lack of urgent selling interest was also illustrated by a €5/mt increase in offer levels on the day. A producer said this suggested that customers had committed to making up for shortfalls in contractual offtakes during August, because of logistics disruptions due to low water levels at the Rhine, in September. “Nobody’s panicking, which means customers have told suppliers they will take volumes in September,” the producer said....
