The European benzene and styrene markets strengthened Oct. 24 amid increased trading activity. Benzene trading surged on the first day of the contract pre-settlement trading window, with over 40 deals concluded, according to a trader. Competitive bid-offer ranges for November laycans were heard at $685-$705/metric ton for Nov. 1-10, $680-$700/mt for Nov. 1-15, and $665-$685/mt for any November dates, leading to a backwardated structure within the month. Despite the heightened activity, demand and supply fundamentals remained stable both day over day and week over week. Price increases were driven by strength in the upstream crude complex.
