The Indian government and top biofuel industry bodies—ISMA, GEMA, and AIDA—alongside petroleum industry leadership, have launched a coordinated push to pivot ethanol into the domestic cooking sector, citing a 60% reliance on imported LPG and escalating energy security risks from conflicts in the Middle East. In a formal presentation to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on March 21, the All India Distillers’ Association said the industry is ready to exceed current E20 blending targets to mitigate supply disruptions caused by the Middle East war.
