Asian Toluene: Prices inch down; Chinese domestic markets weaken / Weaker dollar impacts prices / Supply tightness in NE Asia spills over into SE Asia

The toluene price $1/mt lower from the previous close at $735/mt FOB Korea, while the FOB China marker was stable day over day at $716/mt on Jan. 30. A China-based analyst said that a weaker dollar creates upward pressure on Chinese export prices. Meanwhile, an importer in Southeast Asia said a weaker dollar eases cost pressures as aromatics prices increase. The Chinese domestic market retreated Jan. 30. assessed the prompt ex-tank East China price down Yuan 25/mt to Yuan 5,545/mt, equivalent to about $691.55/mt on an export parity basis. A trader in China said domestic supply remains tight, with March export cargoes from the country — predominantly heading toward South Korea — priced as high as $740/mt.
