Latin American toluene and mixed xylene prices jumped during the week ending Oct. 24, tracking the upward trend seen in the US Gulf markets. Latin American toluene at $835/mt FOB Brazil, up $6 week over week, while mixed xylenes experienced a similar movement to be assessed at $817/mt FOB Brazil, up $6 over the same period. Prices were based on prompt-and forward-month US Gulf Coast FOB assessments using a three-to 30-day netback formula that accounts for freight costs at $100/mt, according to market feedback. In Europe, the toluene market experienced a low buying appetite, with volumes mainly directed toward gasoline blending due to persistently weak downstream chemical demand.
