The Asian polyethylene markets saw limited trade in the week ending Sept. 30, with weak sentiment and cautious, needs-only buying across the region ahead of a major holiday in China. In China and Northeast Asia, trading activity slowed as market participants braced for China’s weeklong National Day holiday from Oct. 1-7. Downstream converters and finished- goods manufacturing plants wound down operations as factory workers prepared to return to their hometowns for the holidays, leading buyers to stick to as-needed purchasing. Most producers in Northeast Asia had sold out of October shipments, with offers for November cargoes due to be announced later in the week or the following week, some PE producers said.
