Asian PET: Prices rise on supply constraints / Unplanned plant shutdown tightens bottle-grade supply: sources / India demand lifts Southeast Asia spot sales

Asian bottle-grade polyethylene terephthalate prices rose in the week to Aug. 26, supported by tightening feedstock supply. PET FOB Northeast Asia $10/metric ton higher week over week at $1,045/mt on Aug. 26 and FOB Southeast Asia PET $40/mt higher over the same period at $1,145/mt. PET sellers and traders in China said an unexpected shutdown of a bottle flake production line in Northeast China made near term supply fundamentals bullish. Offers for FOB China September-loading cargoes were heard about $30/mt higher week over week at $1,050-$1,070/mt on Aug. 26. Downstream buyers, however, adopted a cautious purchasing approach, showing little willingness to chase rising prices.
