Asian MMA: Prices for China-origin cargoes rise amid production cuts / MMA production in China drops about 50%-55%: producer / PMMA margins hurt by upstream costs

Asian methyl methacrylate market prices in Asia for Chineseorigin cargoes were higher in the week to Aug. 25, as domestic production remains capped due to planned and unplanned turnarounds. The FOB China marker Asian methyl methacrylate price was at $1,525/mt Aug. 25, up $25/mt from the previous week. For the CFR China and CFR Southeast Asia markers, prices were down $15/mt at $1,645/mt and down $40/mt at $1,770/mt, respectively, over the same period. MMA production in China has dropped, prompting exporters to curb steep price cuts, sources said. “Chinese MMA production down to about 50%-55% because of planned and unplanned shutdowns,” one producer said. China’s Zhejiang Petrochemical shut its 180,000 mt/year MMA unit around Aug. 14 for unplanned maintenance while fellow producer Sinochem also shut its 100,000 mt/year MMA unit...
