Asian methanol prices rose by $48-$78/metric ton week over week on March 6, due to disruptions in maritime trade amid the Middle East conflict. Supply in Southeast Asia and South Korea was heard to be tight for March and April. Traders and producers reported a spike in spot inquiries from end-users in Southeast Asia. A record seven trades were reported on March 6. Two sellers sold a combined total of 28,000 mt of methanol at $400-$410/mt to Singapore, Batam, Gresik, Bangkok, Dumai, Map Ta Phut, on a CFR basis. “These are for term customers ... this is not spot demand,” said a seller.
