Asian methanol prices closed the week higher amid upcoming plant turnarounds in Southeast Asia and tighter supply in China. In China, domestic prices for spot cargoes in Taicang rose Yuan 53/mt or $7.51/mt week over week. Discussions for January cargoes in the dollar-denominated market were at $247-$250/mt CFR China. Coastal methanol in East and South China dropped 1.26% week over week to 1.22 million mt Dec. 17, according to data from Longzhong Information Services. Meanwhile, approximately 80.7% of Iran’s methanol capacity — equivalent to 13.85 million mt/year — is offline due to seasonal gas supply cuts. These typically occur in winter, when natural gas is redirected from industrial consumption for household use. In Southeast Asia, Indonesia’s Kaltim Methanol Industri will shut its 710,000-mt/year methanol plant in Bontang for 30-35 days...
