Asian methanol prices ended the week higher amid concerns that Middle Eastern supply to Asia in August could tighten following disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, despite several unsold Middle East cargoes en route to Asia. Market sentiment strengthened after the Stolt Magnesium was attacked on July 13 approximately 40 nautical miles off the coast of Oman, outside Omani territorial waters, prompting an increase in spot inquiries for Southeast Asia. The vessel was destined for Port Klang, Malaysia. Reflecting the firmer sentiment, a 5,000 mt cargo for delivery into a major Southeast Asian port over July 25-31 was traded at $450/mt on July 17.
