Asian ethylene: Tight supply supports firm discussions / Asian ethylene supply tight for H2 Sept.-H1 Oct. / Some deep-sea cargo offers heard

Discussions in the Asian ethylene market remained firm in the week to Sept. 4, with supply tightness for the second half of September and the first half of October continuing to support selling indications. Most regional producers had fully allocated September cargoes, leaving little to no additional material for spot sales and resulting in higher selling indications of $1,150-$1,200/metric ton FOB Korea from producers and $1,150-$1,200/mt CFR Northeast Asia from traders. In addition, the ethylene market was supported by low port inventories of ethylene glycol in China. Localized supply shortfalls also drove a sharp rally in ethylene glycol futures and prompted more inquiries from ethylene glycol makers seeking to increase operating rates.
