Asian caprolactam prices stagnated in the week to Sept. 11, amid cost pressure and slow demand. “The market is in a stalemate, as producers are unable to pass on costs due to slow demand. The anticipated peak in September has been deferred to later this year, as we have yet to see any signs of improvement,” said a buyer source. A producer source echoed these sentiments, noting that sales of caprolactam and nylon-6 remain sluggish. “There’s no sign of improvement, and downstream polyester inventory pressure is further building up.” Buyers were heard staying on the sidelines, restocking only on an as-needed basis as the market awaited demand recovery, according to several sources.
