Asian Butadiene: Prices steady amid downstream resistance / CFR NE Asia stable at $1,570/mt / Lotte Chemical to run Yeosu cracker at 70%-75% in Sep

Chinese butadiene prices held steady Sept. 4, as buyers resisted any further uptick. CFR NE Asia stable on the day at $1,570/mt and CFR China stable on the day at $1,600/mt. Market sources said prices remained rangebound over the day, after a spike over the last week in line with an uptick in crude oil prices and tight domestic supply. In Southeast Asia, market sources said demand remains slow with little buying appetite. “SE Asia has no demand and Korea [has] also covered all volume,” said a Japanese trader. In plant news, South Korea’s Lotte Chemical will continue operating its naphtha-fed steam cracker in Yeosu at about 70%-75% capacity in September, a source with knowledge of the matter said Sept. 3.
