Asian acetic acid and vinyl acetate monomer prices rose in the week to Oct. 1 amid tight regional supply and higher feedstock costs. acetic acid FOB China $5/metric ton higher week over week at $640/metric ton on Oct. 1. In East China, spot cargo discussions were heard broadly at 4,600-4,700 yuan/mt, up around 120-130 yuan/mt ($17.65-$19.12/ mt) from the previous week. In plant news, INEOS PCG Acetyls’ 500,000 metric ton/year acetic acid plant in Kertih, Malaysia, restarted Sept. 20 after mechanical issues had halted production Aug. 20.
