Asian ABS: Prices rise on increasing trading activity / Feedstock costs climb $65/mt to $1,744/mt / Buyers delay purchases on feedstock surge

the Asian acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene CFR China marker at $1,629/mt Sept. 30, up $19/mt week over week. Two trades were heard in the CFR China market for around 50 to 100 metric tons of ABS at $1,620-$1,630/mt. A trade was heard earlier in the week in the CFR Southeast Asia market at around $1,600-$1,620/mt. “Demand is average at the moment,” a China-based trade source said. “Buyers are still watching and waiting, tracking the prices of upstream crude, benzene, and styrene,” a Southeast Asia-based producer said. “We’re not optimistic about demand improvement in November and December,” he added. According to calculations, the feedstock cost for ABS, determined as the weighted average of feedstock styrene monomer, butadiene and acrylonitrile costs plus a fixed cost of $280/mt, was at $1,743.90/mt on Sept. 30, up $65.10/mt...
