The Asian naphtha market was steady at the start of a new front-month physical cycle Aug. 17, as fundamentals remained soft amid ample supplies, as evidenced by recently concluded spot tenders. In addition, reports of fresh attacks on two more ships near the UAE, along with a drone attack on Russia’s Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga, with both reported late last week, may limit downside for the naphtha market in the near term. In tenders, Japan’s AMEC bought 25,000 metric tons of open-specification naphtha for delivery to Mizushima in H2 September at a premium in the mid-teens to the Mean of Japan naphtha assessments on a CFR basis and with pricing over 30 days prior to delivery, reported Aug. 14.
