Plant outages in China, SE Asia support AA prices / Bullish fundamentals prevail in the Asian VAM market

Asian acetic acid and vinyl acetate monomer prices were higher in the week ended Dec. 11 on the back of plant outages and tight supply. China's INEOS YPC Acetyls extended the maintenance shutdown of its 500,000 mt/year acetic acid plant at Jiangsu, with no specific timing announced for the restart. The plant has been offline since mid-October. Celanese Corp.'s 1.2 million mt/year acetic acid plant in Nanjing, China, has been down since Nov. 28 for planned maintenance, but the plant is scheduled to restart in mid-December. Discussions for FOB China cargoes were heard at $300-$310/mt Dec. 11, higher than offers at $300/mt FOB China the week before.
